Scale of the Harvest Dragon

The field hands said a dragon slept under the Ash Fields and shed a scale every harvest to mark the rows it claimed. They cut those rows last. Before the final cut of each season every hand pinned one on, so whatever was under the dirt would know whose hands had been in its rows. The harvest wardens never wrote the dragon down. A hand who'd come back from twenty seasons wore twenty scales.

Graveyard record holds eleven scales, all out of one stretch of furrow where the rows bend around a set of ribs coming up through the ash. The archivists filed the scales next to the Wyrm of the Forged Vale. They haven't filed the ribs.

The knotwork and border rise in one color above a sunken field in the second. The contrast is cut into the geometry, so it comes off the plate finished. Flat back with a recessed channel for a standard bar pin. Glue the pin in after printing.

The color change lands on a single layer and the knot stacks up from there, the same way the ground lays one season over the last.
