It belonged to a harvest warden who worked the burial rows. When he went into the ground the dog lay down on his grave and stayed there until it went in too. They buried it at his feet. Next season the dirt was turned and the dog was back on top of the grave, sitting up, watching the row. The wardens stopped putting it back. They painted it for mourning instead, one bloom for every name it sat over, and the blooms kept coming. Nobody out there has counted them in a long time.

Printed in full color in a single build, in four and five color versions. The paint sits down in the layers and runs all the way through.
