The Maw is the widest known way down into the Deep Vaults. The Cartomancer keeps it, and the price of passage is a card. The Oracle below answered every question truthfully and hollowed the askers out. The Cartomancer does not answer. It deals, and the pilgrim reads, and what the pilgrim reads is the pilgrim's problem. The archivists list it as one of two known keepers of the Deep Vaults in the present age, with the FellMaw at the stair. Neither has been asked whether they know about the other.
