Origin
Pulled from the flame line at the edge of the Burning Grove, where the trees have stood on fire since the Rendering and the firemoths still won't fly near the spot it stood.
It is a watch totem, an owl carved long and narrow and set on a black plinth. The ear tufts rise into two hard points. The eyes are hollow and glassy, cut deep on either side of a feathered ridge that runs down from the brow and keeps going into the stem. The carvers laid the feathers flat and overlapping until they read as scale. On either side the wings flare up and out in tiers of copper blades, packed so tight they look like one shape until the light finds the gaps.
