The crow came for the gleanings and stayed after there was nothing left to glean.
It keeps the bone orchard on the ridge, where the trees went bare out of season and never leafed again. The field below it is the northern edge of the Ash Fields, cut once and never sown. Everything that could rot has already rotted. The bird holds the same branch through every moon and watches the treeline for something that has not arrived yet. The harvest wardens raised the CrowFeast Mask to keep birds like this one off the rows. It did not work on this one. It learned the mask, then learned what stood behind it, and moved up the ridge to wait.
